Welcome to TCA

First time climbing?

arrowHow do I get started?

Welcome — The Newsroom is Glasgow’s home of bouldering and one of the easiest, friendliest places in the city to start. Do you want to learn to climb? Bouldering is climbing close to the ground over soft mats, with no ropes and no experience needed.

New to bouldering? We recommend starting with a bouldering induction, but they are optional. Inductions are a short, friendly session where a staff member shows you around and gives you the pointers you need to head off and climb on your own. Come solo, or bring friends and family along to learn together.

Prefer to jump straight in? That’s fine. Just turn up and hire shoes at reception. Over-16s can boulder unsupervised. To save time, complete forms before you arrive — this includes our short safety video.

When it comes to paying, you can pay per visit or buy a pass for discounted entry. View prices. And if you’ve never visited a TCA centre before, your second visit is completely free.

Looking for roped climbing rather than bouldering? You can try that at our other centre in Maryhill, which has ropes, auto belays and bouldering: The Prop Store.

Do you kids want to learn to climb?

Bouldering

At The Newsroom, children of any age can boulder with a registered adult and one adult can supervise up to two under-16s. There is no need to book, just turn up. Over-16s can boulder unsupervised.

The Newsroom has a dedicated kids climbing area, set for shorter reach and smaller hands, with plenty of easy problems so younger children enjoy the climbs. Over 8s can access the main climbing area too.

You can drop-in anytime, but we also run classes through term time and holiday activities in the school breaks.

Roped Climbing

If you want to try Roped Climbing, please head to The Prop Store in Maryhill, where we offer roped climbing, auto belays, bouldering, a training room and a gym. Ask about a free auto belay induction. You can book a Family Taster for over 8s. For drop-in bouldering at The Prop Store, if you are bringing under-8s, please call ahead. See all Youth classes.

Birthday Parties

We run awesome climbing birthday parties for any age.

arrowCan I visit without climbing?

Yes, we have cafes in every centre where you can enjoy great coffee, sweet treats, savoury snacks and beer. These are open to the public. You do not need to register to use the cafes. We offer take out hot drinks if you are passing and need a quick caffeine (or decaf) fix.

Welcome to

The Newsroom

A large, friendly bouldering centre near the heart of Glasgow, the kind of place you come to get fit, meet people, and enjoy the workout. Alongside the walls you’ll find endurance circuits, gym equipment, a stretching area and a dedicated kids’ zone. Our café pours locally roasted coffee and serves savouries and sweet treats and our shop carries one of Scotland’s largest ranges of climbing shoes, with expert advice whenever you need it.

We’re open from 7am on weekdays so you can climb or use the gym equipment before work. Parking is free, there is a shower, changing rooms and a warm welcome, plus the cafe also opens at 7am.

New to climbing?

The easiest way in is a bouldering induction — a short, friendly session where a staff member shows you the ropes and sets you up to climb on your own. Not essential, but a relaxed way to start. Come solo, or bring friends and family along to learn together.
