Climbing Wall Instructor
We are an approved provider of Mountain Training’s Climbing Wall Instructor qualification, designed for those who want to teach top rope climbing and bouldering on indoor walls and artificial towers. The course covers group management, movement coaching, and includes a module on group abseiling.
Training Course Prerequisites
- Minimum age: 17 (18 for assessment)
- At least 6 months of experience using various climbing walls
- Interest in climbing and supervising groups
- Membership with BMC, Mountaineering Scotland, or Mountaineering Ireland (can be joined at registration) – find out why

- Create or log in to the Candidate Management System.
- Register for the Climbing Wall Instructor scheme.
- Register an interest in attending one of our upcoming Climbing Wall Instructor training courses.

Assessment Course Prerequisites
- Minimum age: 18
- Completion of Climbing Wall Instructor (or Climbing Wall Award) training or hold an exemption
- Familiarity with the syllabus
- Logged experience:
- 30+ visits to at least three climbing walls
- 40+ lead climbs on climbing walls
- Assisted in 15+ instructed sessions across two walls, including a large public facility (5 sessions must include personal reflective comments on DLOG)
- Confident leading at Fr 4
- Attended an in-person first aid course (8+ hours, including assessment)
