TRY CLIMBING
KEEP FIT, THE FUN WAY
Climbing is great full-body exercise; it’s sociable, mindful, creative and endlessly fun. You can make your climbing session as easy or as tough as you want, depending on how you feel or what your goals are. Give it a go, you’ll probably get hooked.
Brand new climbers
Bouldering
Bouldering does not require a partner. You do not need to do a course to start bouldering – which is low-level climbing over mats, with no ropes. You can complete forms online BEFORE you visit the centre to save time or do it on arrival. The forms include a safety video that tells you everything you need to know to start climbing. Ask at reception if would prefer to book instruction.
Roped climbing
Roped climbing is done in pairs. As a new climber, you must complete a course to start roped climbing. To rope climb you must fill out a separate form, which you can also complete online before you arrive. See below for courses.
Auto belay can be done alone. See below for inductions.
ROPED COURSES
ROPED BEGINNERS COURSE
We run beginners courses for adults who wish to learn how to top-rope. This includes knots, tying-in, belaying safely and descending in control. BOOK NOW
AUTO BELAY INDUCTIONS
We run auto belay inductions on request at The Prop Store. Please enquire with staff at the reception desk or by phone 0141 429 6331. Learn important rules for using the auto belay systems safely and gain experience in the company of a skilled instructor.
Experienced climbers
If you’re an experienced and competent climber, but have not climbed at TCA before, you can just turn up to The Prop Store, complete the relevant forms and competency test – then start climbing. You can pay per entry or buy pre-paid passes which allows access to all TCA centres (see locations).
Supervising climbers
Under 16s must be supervised by a registered adult. Only registered over 18s can supervise other climbers – which can be up to two participants at a time.
When auto belaying under 18s must be supervised by a registered auto-belay climbing adult (who is over 18). A registered auto-belay climber can supervise up to two unregistered auto-belayers of any age.
When roped climbing under 18s must be supervised by a registered roped climbing adult (who is over 18). A registered roped climber can supervise up to two unregistered roped climbers of any age.
