Climbing Wall Development Instructor
We are an approved provider of Mountain Training’s Climbing Wall Development Instructor qualification, designed for experienced RCI or CWI instructors who want to teach lead climbing on artificial walls. This one-day course covers risk assessment, coaching, teaching strategies, duty of care, falling, and dynamic belaying.
Prerequisites
Prior to attending a training course, you must have an up-to-date logbook (preferably DLOG) with evidence of the following:
- Lead climb F6a onsight and take controlled falls
- Hold a Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) or the Rock Climbing Instructor (RCI) qualification
- Logged experience:
- Led 50 routes
- Climbed at 3 major climbing walls
- Belayed a lead climber 50 times
- 25 lead routes at F6a indoors
- 20 supervising sessions after CWI/RCI (at least 5 with reflective DLOG comments)

- Register for the CWDI scheme (see current cost on MT website)
- Register an interest in attending one of our upcoming Climbing Wall Development Instructor training courses.
