Book a Taster

Try it out. These fun sessions are a great way to give climbing a go without needing to sign up for a full course. We run family and kids-only tasters on weekends and throughout the school holidays – check the calendar below for upcoming dates. See Course prices. We also run adult tasters.

Bouldering

Just turn up and give it a go – no booking or courses needed. Bouldering is climbing at low height over crash mats, so there are no ropes to worry about. It’s the easiest way to get started. At The Arc:

  • Our upstairs bouldering wall in the South Block has lots of child-friendly boulder problems.
  • There are some restrictions on access to downstairs bouldering in the North Block for the over 8s.

Youth Roped Beginners (12-15yrs)

This two-part course is the best way for teens to get started. Our instructors will show you how to tie in, belay safely, and move well on the wall. You don’t need any experience to join, but you’ll need to complete both sessions if you’re looking to move on to our regular Youth Climbing classes.

Drop-In Roped Climbing

The Arc offers auto belay, top-rope or lead climbing. You can complete our online forms in advance – these include a short safety video.

  • Auto belays: Kids of any age can use these. Adults just need a quick, free induction at reception (no booking needed).
  • Supervised Climbing: Kids can use the ropes if with an adult who’s already signed off. To get signed off, check our Adult Roped Beginners’ courses.
  • Closer to Bristol? We also run courses and classes at The Mothership and The Church.
Supervision: All climbers under 16 must be supervised by a registered adult for bouldering and auto belay and all under 18s must be supervised for roped climbing. One adult can supervise up to two children per visit.
