The Mothership was TCA’s first climbing centre, opened in 2008. From the outset, we prioritised the social aspect of the sport as much as the climbing. In October 2019, following a state-of-the-art expansion, we opened a whole new floor of climbing, subsequently adding a gym area. The Mothership is still going strong and we’re always refreshing the walls with new problems for climbers of all abilities.
The Mothership is a dedicated bouldering centre. Visit The Church if you are looking for roped climbing.
We have two floors of bouldering walls, of varied angles. Get to know the layout of the climbing areas. See maps.
The Mothership is situated near Barton Hill close to Bristol city centre. You can see a map on our contact page.
We’re situated just off the Bristol-Bath cycle path making it easy to ride to, with safe and secure bike parking just outside reception. We are walking distance from Temple Meads station, just 1.3 miles. There’s also ample onsite and on-street parking.
We encourage our climbers to arrive via public transport, bike or on foot where possible as on-street parking is limited. If you are part of a group please consider car sharing.
The TravelWest journey planner shows you the best walking, cycling and public transport options for getting to us. TravelWest is a travel information service in the West of England, they also provide free travel support including loan bikes, cycle training, journey planning and bus taster tickets – click here to apply.
If you cycle to The Mothership, we have a number of bike racks at the front of the building and lockers inside for you to leave your belongings.
PART OF THE TCA FAMILY
Once you have completed forms to climb at The Mothership, you will be able to climb at other TCA centres – as long as you have completed the appropriate forms for bouldering or roped climbing. A TCA pass will give you access to all (soon to be) 5 centres.
