Everyone is Welcome at TCA
At TCA, we believe climbing should be for everyone.
We’ve always worked hard to create spaces that are welcoming, supportive, and inclusive – whether you’re climbing for the first time or have been training for years. And as conversations around identity and inclusion continue in the public sphere, we thought it was a good time to share a reminder of what we stand for.
Inclusion matters
A Place Where Everyone Belongs
We know that people come to our centres for all sorts of reasons: to get stronger, to clear their head, to connect with others, or just to have fun. Whoever you are, and however you climb, we want you to feel safe and supported here.
That’s why you’ll find things like:
- A webpage with access info for each centre.
- The ability to add preferred pronouns to your TCA account.
- Clear and respectful signage in our changing areas and toilets. (Some more signage will be added soon to indicate private changing areas).
- Sanitary products in most toilets or available from reception – for anyone who might need them.
- Friendly staff who are trained to help with any concerns or questions.
- A calm, welcoming atmosphere where community comes first.
We don’t carry out identity checks at the door – we simply ask everyone to respect each other’s privacy, and our team is always on hand to help if something isn’t right.
Why We Do What We Do
We know that small actions – like where products are placed, or how spaces are labelled – can make a big difference to people who might otherwise feel excluded. These actions don’t take anything away from anyone else. But they can go a long way in making sure that disabled people, trans people, non-binary people, and anyone who has ever felt unsure about whether they belong in a sport like climbing, know that they’re truly welcome.
We’re proud of that.
Staying Informed and Respecting the Law
We’re aware that recent legal rulings in Scotland and across the UK have clarified rules around disability access and some of the ways that gender and sex are defined in law. While those decisions are complex and ongoing, we want to reassure everyone that our inclusive practices remain fully in line with current legislation.
We’ll continue to keep a close eye on any legal developments and make sure that our approach remains both welcoming and lawful. Our goal is always to balance inclusion, safety, and respect for everyone in our community.
Let’s Talk
If you ever have a concern about our facilities, or just want to understand more about how we do things, please speak to a member of staff. We’re always happy to chat – and we’re always learning, too.
Thanks for helping us make TCA a place where everyone can thrive.
All TCA centres have non-gender specific accessible toilets and showers which can be used as private changing areas.
