Big Changes at The Mothership: New Entrance, New Facilities

Exciting things are happening at The Mothership! From 3 March, the entrance will be moving to the other side of the building—you’ll now enter via Barrow Road instead of Charlton Street. But that’s just the beginning of a major transformation at one of Bristol’s leading indoor bouldering centres.

A New Way to Experience The Mothership

As soon as you step through the new entrance, you’ll find a brand-new reception, café, shop, and café bar. This space has been designed to make your visit smoother, more comfortable, and more enjoyable, with some great perks:

  • A fully enclosed, glass-fronted environment – perfect for watching the climbing action while staying comfortable.
  • Warmer in winter, cooler in summer – a big upgrade for those who like to relax post-climb.
  • A chalk-free café space – grab a coffee, cake, or even a beer in a fresh, clean setting.

Opening week offer

For customers who are registered to climb at TCA, we are offering 10% off all cafe and shop purchases from Mon 3 – Sun 9 March. This is for all purchases made in The Mothership. It is not valid for the online shop.

Enjoy a post-climb coffee and treat, or take advantage of the discount to pick up some fresh climbing gear – including Evolv shoes, new clothing, and recently arrived books.

The Future of The Mothership

This move is part of a wider redevelopment, with even bigger changes coming soon:

  • A brand-new co-working space will be opening upstairs (more on this soon!).
  • We’re expanding and upgrading the gym facilities downstairs which will be open by summer 2025.
  • Eventually, we’ll be completely revamping the entire downstairs climbing area.

One of the highlights of the redevelopment is an upstairs balcony on the Mezzanine level, which will provide an amazing viewing spot for competitions and a great way to take in the atmosphere of the centre. While the upstairs space won’t be open immediately, we’re excited to welcome you into the newly upgraded entrance area.

Parking & Access

  • The Charlton Street car park remains open, though there will be some hoardings in place.
  • Bike parking is still available at the back of the centre.

This transformation has been brought to life by Shape, a fantastic design company that has created a brilliant new space for our climbing community.

We can’t wait to share these exciting changes with you. See you at The Mothership’s new entrance on Barrow Road from 3 March!
