Updated face covering policy

As a result of very careful consideration, feedback from staff and customers along with discussions with other walls and the Association of British Climbing Walls (ABC), we will be changing the policy for wearing face coverings within TCA centres effective from MON 19 OCTOBER. This will be in line with the position the full industry adopts and reflects how other sports are applying the UK Government Guidelines.

TCA Face covering Policy

Face coverings will be mandatory throughout our centres for all non-exempt customers in all areas, except when actively climbing, exercising with gym equipment or eating/drinking in the café.

mandatory

*NEW* On or off the mats, between climbs.
In all areas of the centre (unless described otherwise here).

recommended

When belaying – if you are happy that it does not impede communication with your climber.

optional

When off-the-ground climbing.
When using TCA’s gym equipment.

Children

Please refer to local government guidelines for children’s face coverings:
rules in England / rules in Scotland

YOU MUST

  • Wash or sanitise hands before and after touching your face covering
  • Make sure it fits well and covers your nose and mouth

BEST PRACTICE

  • Do not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth when adjusting it
  • Handle only by the ear loops or ties (behind your head)
  • Wash after use at a high temp, ideally over 60℃
  • Alternate face coverings between washes
  • Where practical, store it in a clean bag and do not place on surfaces
  • Single-layer solutions such as a fleece, scarf, buff or bandana are not appropriate.

We understand that some individuals will have a reason they cannot wear a face covering (such as chronic asthma).

SOCIAL DISTANCING – CLUSTERS

You must only climb closely with people from your own household. Please maintain 2m distance from others and do not gather in clusters around the wall. When an area you are in feels busy –

  • Moving to a quieter part of the centre
  • Take a break
  • Avoid peak climbing hours
By avoiding our peak period from late afternoon to 8pm on weeknights, you will help to minimise crowds and you can enjoy quieter climbing. We have introduced new off-peak climbing from 3pm until close at all centres at weekends.

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR BAGS BESIDE MATTS

All belongings must be stowed in lockers or cubby holes and not left at the side of walkways or in the pit (in The Newsroom). We want to minimise contact between non-sanitised items from different households.

SANITISE YOUR HANDS REGULARLY

As is indicated around centres, we need you to sanitise or thoroughly wash your hands before, during and after your session.

CHECK OUT

While it may not immediately seem like a Covid-19 related measure, checking out is critical to help us monitor the number of people in the building – so that we can guarantee enough space for social distancing. Please CHECK OUT every time you visit.

THANK YOU

As a community, we want to set a good example for behaviour, not just for the benefit of TCA or for you the user, but to help diminish the spread of this virus more generally. We thank you in advance for taking this seriously and following our rules for climbing safely.
