With Glasgow hosting inaugural European Championships throughout August, we're partnering up with Forest Enterprise Scotland to host some 'come and try' bouldering sessions as part of their ‘Come and Try Championships’.
As Glasgow welcomes Europe’s sporting elite from 2 – 12 August, Forest Enterprise Scotland is inviting the public along to the ‘Come and Try Championships’ at Cuningar Loop this weekend.
Taking place on Saturday 11th August from 11am to 3pm, the fun, free sporting event will give adults and children the opportunity to compete against athletes across the Clyde.
Experts will be on hand to help participants increase their sporting skills and techniques or try out something new; from cycling, climbing and orienteering to Tai Chi and woodland workouts.
Cuningar Loop boasts Scotland’s first outdoor boulder park, where the climbing will take place. Orienteering will make use of the 2.5 kilometres of accessible mixed paths the park has to offer, whilst budding cyclists can have a go on the bike track. Participants will also be given the chance to relax and unwind on the grass by the River Clyde as they learn all about Tai Chi.
Bridget Holtom, community ranger at Forest Enterprise Scotland, said: “This month is an exciting time for Glasgow as we welcome professional athletes from across Europe. It is also an inspiring time for youngsters to watch and learn about sport and the perfect time to give them the chance to take part in their own version of the championships.
“Cuningar Loop is a Legacy 2014 project and is designed to encourage children to seek new adventures, challenge themselves, learn and most importantly have lots of fun outdoors. It’s an ideal location to host the Come and Try Championships.”
To be staged every four years starting in August 2018, the European Championships is an exciting new multi-sport event, bringing together some of the continent’s leading sports including the existing European Championships for Athletics, Aquatics, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing and Triathlon, with new Golf Team Championships.
Cuningar Loop is located in Rutherglen, public transport is encouraged as there is limited parking. Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign up at the registration tent on the day and book your slot.
