Support the Peaceful Portway Campaign

By The Climbing Academy

Want to enjoy climbing in the Avon Gorge in peace and quiet? Of course you do! Here's how we can work together to make it a reality...

Peaceful Portway Bristol is a local initiative to close the Avon Gorge to traffic on special Sundays so people can enjoy the cliffs and river in their natural state. Please help get momentum going to make the Avon Gorge free of traffic a few Sundays each year.

In 2015 the Portway was closed to traffic on 5 Sundays – when Bristol was Green Capital – but since then it’s happened on fewer and fewer occasions.  At the moment public money isn’t forthcoming to pay for the closures.  So, to keep the idea alive we need people – climbers, cyclists, walkers, families, everyone in fact – to show active support for a Peaceful Portway and help raise the money to secure some traffic free Sundays.  This way we will create public pressure for traffic free Avon Gorge Sundays to become a feature of Bristol life.
