The life and motivations of writer, funny-man and Britain’s unlikeliest hero-mountaineer as he scales the worlds’ toughest cliff, solo.
TCA Glasgow proudly presents Psycho Vertical, a film by Light Shed Pictures, starring Andy Kirkpatrick in a special showing at Glasgow's Drygate Brewery.
Andy Kirkpatrick, 44, a world-class climber and alpinist, lives a life of conflicting desires and responsibilities. While firmly grounded by his impoverished upbringing, from a young age his head has been drifting in the clouds, filled with grand ideas of discovering who he is and what exactly he’s made of. The thing about Andy is he puts his grand ideas into practice. Though he knows the pain of living in poverty, pursuing his dreams comes before making a living. Though he battles with severe dyslexia, he has turned himself into an award-winning author. While compelled to share his chaotic personal life on Twitter and make audiences crumple with laughter on stage, he chooses to test himself on some of the world’s longest and most difficult climbs totally alone, ‘where the danger is real and the return questionable’. A proud and doting father, he cannot help but put ambition over security, even if that means risking his life time and again. By exploring his past, his present and his motivation for pushing his limits to the absolute extreme, this film follows Andy on a week-long, solo ascent of El Capitan, the most sought-after conquest for climbers around the world, where life on the wall is precarious, tough and ‘crushingly lonely’.
