Some of you might have noticed the Climb Swaziland gear box at reception. We are collecting old boots and harnesses/gear to be sent out to help develop climbing in Africa.
Climb Swaziland is a project set up to encourage climbing at school level across Swaziland with the aim to update the facilities at Waterford Kamhlaba UWC, start competing with schools in the Mpumalanga region of South Africa where there are large indoor climbing facilities and set up local community service projects in Swaziland. The project is being led by students at the college and supported by the development office.
Sibusiso Vilane was the first black African to summit Everest, and went on to climb the 7 summits of the world. Sibusiso recently launched the Climb Swaziland project, outlining the importance of youth climbing in Africa and appealing to the climbing community to take part.
The project aims to reach as many international climbers as possible in order to find support from individual climbers, donating old gear and making donations as well as securing main sponsors to fund different aspects of the project.
If you've got anything lying around in safe condition that you want to give to a good cause then just drop it into the centre and we'll make sure it helps climbers who are less fortunate than ourselves.
